Finland outage 🇫🇮

We’ve been suffering a network outage on our Finland server (juhani.vibetalk.net) and been in contact with provider.

They are saying them as a hosting provider are being attacked (ddos) and it’s taking longer than expected to resolve.

We are currently seeing an improvement with our vps, PingBot isn’t detecting any outages however control panel isn’t accessible after 3days.

I’m looking into removing our Finland server from the dns, till it improves or purchasing another European vps.

IRCd & Services change

we have changed our IRCd from FireIRCd to a Solanum Fork. This was due to a bug when you rehashed the motd it would cause the daemon to crash. Craig (SnowFields) didn’t want to continue with development on the older IRCd and decided to fork solanum. We lost channel prefixes (+qah) which is a loss but we both agreed stability is more important.

we also swapped from our services (shale-services) to Atheme services. This bought loads of new features, including moderation of channel registration. I understand the delay can be annoying for some but will also maintain spam registration.

Since the change, our network has become more stable and user friendly. Just how IRC should be and we aim to maintain this.
